Welcome to Room 224
MATHEMATICS: The Anchorage School District has adopted the Go, Math! curriculum for grades K-6 mathematics instruction. Some wonderful aspects of this program are all of the tools and features available to students and their families online. Visit the ASD Math webpage to become familiar with some of these features.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS: The area of language arts consists of spelling, phonics, writing, grammar, reading skills, and literature study. Students will be using interactive notebooks as well as trade books to reinforce, enhance, and learn skills to help them become better readers and writers. These notebooks will become tools students can use for years to come!
Social Studies: 6th grade social studies focuses on the theme of 20th Century conflict. We begin the year looking at economics, followed by a unit on immigration/migration. We will then move on to WWI and beyond.
Science: This year we will be covering two units. The first will be Ecosystem Dynamics in the fall. Energy will follow in the spring. To find out more about the 6th grade ASD Science program, click on this link.
Band and Orchestra are offered in elementary school at the 6th grade level only. This is a great opportunity for students to learn to play an instrument. If a student does not already have an instrument, that's ok! The ASD Music Department can work with families! Students not participating in band or orchestra will take part in a music appreciation class. This is not the same as the classroom music class taught to all students by the music teacher.
Students will have assignments that will be completed in our Google Classroom. This is a secure online environment within the Anchorage School District Google container. ALL students and teachers within the Anchorage School District have a secured ASD Google Drive account. This is not a social media site, though students may comment and interact within the Classroom. This interaction is monitored by me. I encourage parents to also join our Google Classroom so they can support their child's learning and growing.
